CKERWorld FM has one of the most spartan websites of all of the radio stations in Edmonton. This probably speaks to their low ratings—it falls into that dreaded “all other stations” category—and relatively small audience. Like the local Christian radio stations, their budget is probably in proportion to their audience, so one can't expect too much in the way of extra features on their website.

That said, let's look at what they do have.

In terms of ways to get in touch with the station through their website, they have a contact page. That's it. And, unfortunately, it's a contact page that doesn't provide a whole lot of information. There's a street address, phone and fax numbers, and a contact form. Now, the drop-down menu in the contact form lists a fair number of departments, so it's quite possible that you'll be able to get in touch with the right people by using this form, but it would be nice if they listed names and email addresses instead. But, working with what we're given, the contact form can be used to contact the program director, the general manager, the sale manager, the promotions coordinator, as well as someone from each of the stations various ethnic programs (Chinese, Spanish, Italian, Ukrainian, German and Punjab). There's also a “General Inquires” option if none of the other categories apply.

That, I'm afraid, is it. There's information about each of the different ethnic programs on the station, as well as a program schedule. And there is an audio archive that allows you to listen to past shows, which is a nice feature, but not of particular use to communications professionals trying to get in touch with the station and its audience.

World FM does have an events page, but it's perhaps the most generic events listing I've ever seen on a media website. It lists various “ethnic” holidays, like Ukrainian Christmas and Chinese New Year, but nothing else. It also doesn't seem to be updated with great frequency, as the most recent listing is from late January.

While World FM plays an important role in the community, providing a voice for many of Edmonton's ethnic minorities, their website doesn't provide much in the way of communications channels. If World FM serves an audience you want to reach, I'd recommend giving them a call and seeing what you can do to get your message on the station.
